Chanakya -the hindi teleseries

I happened to get the link of this television series in Google videos and once I started watching it  got hooked to it and thus spent my long Easter weekend watching the entire 8 volumes, almost 32 hours of video. No other historical series that has been made in Hindi has impressed me more. It is a phenomenally well researched work with a meticulous eye on detail orientation. The serial is directed by Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi who also plays the role of Vishnugupt Chanakya. As evident by its name the story revolves around the life and struggle of Chanakya to integrate the different republics present in erstwhile India into a powerful kingdom under a just and systematic rule that works for the welfare of the nation and its citizens. Dwivedi has masterfully played the role of Chanakya and enlivens the character of this ancient political statesman and Vedic sage to the fullest on the small screen. Chanakya who was the foremost teacher of political science and economics in India around 300 BC was also a nation builder and a protector and nurturer of a nascent kingdom. And in that process he made use of all the four facets of the ancient statecraft :- Saam, Daam, Dand, Bhed. In the serial Dwivedi has made all efforts to see that Chanakya is well portrayed and in my opinion he has been tremendously successful.

Vishnugupt Chanakya emerges as a perfect role model even for today. I wish I were one of the disciples of Acharya Chanakya and would be a recipient of the immense knowledge and character he embodied.

P.S :- The Hindi used in the serial is a little hard and sometimes I needed the help
of English subtitles to understand.

I remember CHanakya being aired on DD a when I was a kid. And I hated it...Never really understood why all the elders were so interested in this saga of bald men.

Anyways, your post inspired me to give it a second chance!
Maybe, I was too young to follow it that time!

I and my husband are very fond of watching these kind of things...We completed Mahabharata which was a great task but i truly enjoyed every episode of it...

Next we watched whole harry potter series then we started with Chanakya but left it in between because it is difficult to understand the whole language especially when you are back home after a long day work:)

Well, for starters, welcome back!
Next, where have you been???
And then, Chanakya was truly awesome! I fell in love with history with all those series- The sword of Tipu Sultan, The Great Maratha, Chanakya, Discovery of India and the likes! Wonder how television could devolve to Ekta Kapoor's Balaji so drastically! Wasn't she influenced by those master-pieces?

I have been reading Chanakya-Niti for some time now...and this man amuses me...

He is an interesting guy who had his share of imperfections...but yes, most of what he said holds true even now.

I used to watch it as a kid every Sunday as I recall...haina!

Wish they show some re-runs on some random channel..

Thanks for bringing him back... :)

And hope Sneha, you are doing good.. I miss u on the blogging arena..post more :D

Maine ise tab dekha tha jab ye TV par aata tha. Par usmein continuity nahin rahti thi. Script , costume aur acting achchi thi aisa abhi tak yaad hai.

yahan jitne bhi logo ne comments diye hain unhe khud se ye phuchna chahiye ki wo is tarah ke serials ko sirf entertainment ke liye dekhte hain yaa phir unhone inme se kuch sikhon ko apni life me bhi utara hain.agar nahi toh dr. dwivedi ki mehnat bekar jayegi kyunki is serial ko dekh kar ye lagata hai ki director is serial ke jariye logon ke dimaag ko alag tarah se sochne par majbur karna chahta hai
